A Commission Program, held on 5th July, 2024, marked a significant milestone for the second-year students, who represent the first batch of the college. The purpose of this program was to send students to local churches in the Northern Bengal and East Himalayan regions, where they would serve as youth pastors and assistant pastors. This program aims to shape students into future pastors by equipping them with many skills such as counselling, preaching, teaching, contextualization, organizing, leadership, and, importantly, helping to engage youth with the church and foster their interest in it.
A total of 42 students were dispatched to 20 different churches, with each pair of students assigned to a specific congregation. These churches are located in areas with diverse tribal communities, including Bengali, Adivasi, Nepali, and Bhutanese populations.
The program received strong support from leaders and pastors from both regions, as well as elders from the churches. The churches were spread over varying distances, with the farthest being approximately 42 kilo meters away from the college. Every Friday after classes, students would embark on their journey by bicycle to their assigned churches. They would return after the Sabbath, or on Sunday for those traveling to more distant locations.
The college has also receive immense support from the BMW (Bicycle Mission World) http://www.bmwmission.org/index.html and is blessed by their generous donation of 50 bicycles to help the students reach the various churches assigned to them.
In conclusion, the Commission Program has proven to be a deeply transformative experience for the second-year students, equipping them with essential skills and a profound understanding of pastoral ministry. Through their dedicated service in the diverse and remote churches of Northern Bengal and the East Himalayan regions, students would experience growth in their spiritual lives, leadership abilities, and ministry skills.
